Self-sufficiency workshop: grazing animals and biodiversity
In May 2026 we hosted a workshop at Lunina dolina for everyone who would like more self-sufficiency in their daily life — from growing food to understanding how animals and nature work together to provide it. Participants saw how even small steps — grazing livestock, a garden, an agroforestry planting — can become part of everyday self-sufficiency.
🐐 Grazing animals up close
The heart of the workshop was an introduction to our grazing animals and their role in the regenerative management of grassland. Participants saw rotational grazing in practice at close range, met the native breeds we keep, and learned why moving animals across the pastures is essential for healthy, living soil. We also involved them in the daily work — from moving fences to observing herd behaviour.
🦋 A walk through the biodiversity
The second part of the workshop was devoted to the biodiversity of Lunina dolina. On a guided walk across the pastures, through the orchards and along the forest edges we showed how pollinators, birds, amphibians and plants live side by side — and why exactly this variety is the foundation of a healthy, self-sufficient farm. Every organism has its role; every species tells its own story about how healthy our valley is.
The workshop was living proof that self-sufficiency is not merely growing food for yourself, but understanding the whole ecosystem that feeds us — from the soil, through the animals, to the pollinators and back again.

Co-funding
The self-sufficiency workshop, like the open day, is co-funded by the SMARTIES for SMEs programme and the Maribor Chamber of Craft and Small Business, both of which recognised the importance of regenerative tourism in the project and supported an example of good practice in linking regenerative farming with sustainable tourism.
