In April 2026 we threw open the gates of Lunina dolina and invited visitors to see for themselves what a day on a regenerative farm looks like. Between the pastures, the yurt and the orchard the air smelled of spring, children raced about among the hens and sheep, and the grown-ups walked our fields and listened to stories about how land you give back to gives back a hundredfold.

For those who do not (yet) know us, a few things about our regenerative farm:

• Our animals are out on pasture all year round — rotational grazing means they move with nature, not against it.
• Among our breeds are native Slovenian ones that shaped this landscape over centuries.
• Agroforestry systems tie trees, shrubs and pasture together into one living, self-sustaining ecosystem.
• We manage the grassland regeneratively — the soil is alive, it soaks up water and stores carbon instead of losing both.
• Our valley is home to more than 140 plant species and 60 bird species — every visit is also a walk through living biodiversity.

The open day was not only a gathering — it was also a celebration of a project that links regenerative farming and sustainable tourism as an example of good practice in the green transition.

🌱 Green transition

The project contributes to:

• preserving and increasing biodiversity,
• planting agroforestry systems,
• regenerative grassland management,
• rotational grazing,
• hay-based livestock keeping,
• reducing environmental impact,
• including native animal breeds.

💻 Digital transition

The project includes:

• using the SmartFence system to manage grazing,
• digital documentation of activities,
• an online presentation of the project,
• using digital channels to keep visitors informed,
• preparing content for further biodiversity monitoring and for developing the tourism offer.

The project contributes directly to the goals of the SMARTIES for SMEs programme, as it brings together tourism, the agri-food sector, education and sustainable development — and the open day was the first chance to experience that combination in person.

The event »Open day at Lunina dolina« is co-funded by the SMARTIES for SMEs programme and the Maribor Chamber of Craft and Small Business, both of which recognised the importance of regenerative tourism in the project and supported an example of good practice in linking regenerative farming with sustainable tourism.
